Nothin left to do but smile, smile, smile. . .The Other Ones show in Pittsburgh at the Mellon Arena was beautiful! The psychedelic morphs on the screens, the light show, the exploratory jams, it was about as close as you could get to being at a Dead show. With the delicious addition of Susan Tedeschi on vocals. Here's my setlist: TOO I: Jam > Here Coms Sunshine > Only the Strange Remain >short drums/space > Hog For You Baby, China Cat Sunflower > The Eleven > Unbroken Chain (!) Intermission set from Robert Hunter: Wharf Rat > Loose Lucy > Loser, Into the Blue (?), Black Muddy River ["How many years has it been? I still miss Jerry."] Promontory Rider, Ripple, a cappella Boys in the Barroom TOO II: Jam > Mason's Children (jam w/hints of Birdsong) > Dire Wolf, Bird Song extended jam > He's Gone > Mr. Charlie > Throwing Stones > Not Fade Away E: Stella Blue (Instrumental) > Box of Rain He's Gone was a mighty singalong, as we fondly remembered the happy Jerry days. Susan belted out a ripping Mr. Charlie. The most stellar piece of the show for me was the soaringly slow and beautiful Stella Blue, that made me want to grab and hold every single nuance of every note. Jimmy Herring is my new guitar hero. I saw him with Phil & Friends last year, and he was out-hotdogged by Warren Haynes. But his extra-tasty weavings were in the mix just enough to leave me wanting more. I'm still coming down. So tempting to fly to Oakland for TOO's New Year's Eve show, with Acoustic Tuna and Modeski, Martin, & Wood. Almost too much to imagine. Well, it's snowing like a mother out here - perhaps 6 inches on the ground, hard to say, lots of drifting. Check this out, grabbed my camera just in time to catch this guy walking through my yard-
